This past weekend (20-21 October 2012) Deep Blue Quest went on a dive tour to Mun Am Dive Resort on the East Coast. We left the dive center in Paju bright and early Saturday morning with our PADI Junior Open Water and Open Water students.

Upon arrival at Mun Am the students were given a quick briefing after which they donned their wetsuits for a quick snorkel around the dive site to get a feel for the diving conditions and also to familiarize themselves with the dive location.

Instructor Patrick leading the snorkel dive

Shortly after the snorkel dive the students donned their scuba gear to go for their first of four open water dives. The conditions were absolutely perfect for diving with almost zero swell, excellent visibility and temperature just below 20 degrees Celsius.

Pre-dive safety check

All the students successfully completed their first qualification dive and with growing confidence they completed two more dives on Saturday, in which they knocked out the bulk of the required skills. The highlight of the dives has to be school of puffer fish and the squid inking the instructors!

Ink from the squid

The student’s final dive on Sunday was really enjoyable as everyone completed the few remaining skills with ease and the rest of the dive was a stress free affair.

After a long day of diving we returned to our hotel to fire up the barbeque (a Deep Blue Quest tradition) and have a few laughs. A big thank you to everyone who helped out and shared in the fun.

The students working on their skills

Congratulations to all the students on completing your qualifications. We at Deep Blue Quest had loads of fun diving with you guys and we truly hope that you keep on diving and enjoying it as much as we do. Well done!

Another great tour, thanks everyone!

Open Water Course, October 13-14

This past weekend at Deep Blue Quest we had one of our youngest ever Jr Open Water students an 11 year old Gabriel Brown. The young adventurist came in on Saturday and ran through his coursework and quizzes and absolutely smoked the final exam!

Instructor Patrick and Gabriel during knowledge development

Patrick, the instructor, conducted the confined water skills in the training pool in Paju. Gabriel completed every skill with style and even performed an underwater Gangnam Style! We at DBQ want to thank Gabriel for choosing to dive with us and congratulate him on a job well done so far.

Gabriel Gangnam Style!

This coming weekend we will be taking him along with our other Open Water students to Mun Am dive resort to complete the required open water dives. We look forward to seeing the youngster kick butt!

While we’re on the subject of youngsters, we would like to introduce the PADI courses aimed at teaching scuba to kids

The PADI Bubblemaker is aimed at kids 8 years and older and any level of swimming ability is acceptable. The children will experience what scuba diving is like under the direct supervision of PADI Instructors. They will also learn how to use scuba equipment and take their first breath 2 meters underwater!

The PADI Seal Team is for young divers who are looking for action-packed fun in a pool by doing exciting scuba AquaMissions. Divers are introduced to underwater photography, navigation, environmental awareness and more. It provides parents with a structured program that lets their children develop skills, learn about the aquatic environment and have a lot of good, clean fun. This is also an excellent way to introduce kids to scuba diving prior to full Open Water Diver certification.

Please contact us for more information regarding cost and duration of the Bubblemaker and Seal Team courses we offer.

East Coast Tour to Mun Am Resort

This past weekend Deep Blue Quest went to Mun Am Resort on the East Coast of South Korea for a certification tour. We had PADI Open Water students completing their required dives as well as an PADI Advanced Open Water diver knocking out his deep dives.

DBQ divers going out snorkelling

Once again we were blessed with fantastic weather although we did face strong currents, choppy waters and a strong swell. Visibility was better than usual (as you can see from the pictures) and the water wasn’t too cold so the conditions were fairly decent for diving.

Open Water Diver Kyle seems pleased with the visibility!

We kicked off Saturday morning with the first of plenty dives to come. Open Water students tend be nervous on their first dive but once in the water they completed their required skills with class and had good fun in the process. Once the first dive was out of the way they enjoyed their remaining dives even more as confidence grew.

Instructor Patrick observing the students perform their skills

As is tradition here at Deep Blue Quest Saturday’s diving was followed by a proper American style barbeque where everyone gets to relax and talk about the day’s events and have a few laughs. A big thank you to everyone who joined in and helped out, it was good fun.

Sunday morning the Advanced Open Water diver went down to 31 meters for their deep dive. Patrick successfully cracked open an egg and the divers had fun playing with the yolk ball.

Egg yolk at 31 meters below!

Congratulations to Kyle, Jin and John on becoming PADI Open Water divers, and Cem on becoming an Advanced Open Water Diver. We at Deep Blue Quest enjoyed sharing this experience with you. We hope that you keep on diving and enjoying it as much as we do.

Congratulations to the newly qualified divers!

Chuseok Holiday Training

Over this past Chuseok Holiday Weekend Deep Blue Quest conducted Open Water, Scuba Review and Referral courses at the dive center in Paju. A big thank you to all the students for making it a good weekend’s training and thanks to the staff for making things run ultra-smooth.

Getting ready for a busy day

A bit about the Scuba Review course

If you haven’t dived for a while, you can refresh your dive skills and knowledge with a PADI Scuba Review. We will update your PADI certification card to show that your dive skills are up to date.

The Divemaster briefing the students

Whether you are a certified PADI diver or certified through another organization, the Scuba Review program is a great way to tune up your diving knowledge and skills and get you back in the water feeling comfortable and confident.

The PADI Scuba Review program consists of two parts; Knowledge Review and Confined Water Skills Review.

Student and instructor conducting confined water skills

The Knowledge Review segment covers basic safety information you learned during your entry-level training. Take a short quiz and review using the Recreational Dive Planner (RDP) to remind you of some of the fundamental theory you learned during your PADI Open Water Course, followed by the final exam.

The Confined Water Skills Review will give you the opportunity to practice some of the scuba diving skills you learnt during your Open Water Course. With guidance from one of our instructors or Divemasters, you will remind yourself and fine-tune your diving skill.

Well done Master Scuba Diver!

Congratulations to our Divemaster candidate on completing her Master Scuba Diver qualification, next step Divemaster!
